Service Description: The Representative Areas Network (RAN) is intended to conserve representative and unique landscapes in each of Saskatchewan's 11 ecoregions. The network consists of a series of lands and waters that are protected or have activity restrictions placed on them by legislation, agreement or policy. These lands include provincial and national parks, ecological reserves, wildlife lands, game preserves, provincial and AESB pastures, conservation easements and other privately held stewardship lands. As of the data of publication, this dataset is the best available spatial representation available to show the boundaries of lands included in the RAN. The RAN dataset was developed to display boundaries of the collection of lands included in the RAN. Although users may utilize the RAN dataset to generally visualize the extent of the RAN, all users should consult legislative references when exact land descriptions are required. The graphical representation does not supersede written legal descriptions. At any particular time, there also may be one or more datasets making up RAN, where an update is available to the source dataset. Users wishing to confirm they have the most current data available for a particular part of the RAN dataset should seek confirmation from the original data custodian. Process steps in this metadata are used to identify specific input datasets.
