Description: The Air Quality Section of the Ministry of Environment hosts a network of continuous ambient air monitors. These monitors are part of various partnership programs including the National Air Pollution Surveillance (NAPS) network, the Southeast Saskatchewan Airshed Association (SESAA), the Western Yellowhead Air Management Zone (WYAMZ), and the Great Plains Air Zone (GPAZ). Continuous ambient air monitors measure the concentration of air pollutants across Saskatchewan. The data from these air monitoring locations is used to track and report on progress for achieving air quality objectives; to measure representative pollutant concentrations and determine long-term trends and; to provide air quality information to the public. Air pollutants typically come from various industrial activity and natural sources, such as: mining, oil and gas, agriculture, forest fires, electrical generation, and the transportation sector. Air Quality standards are outlined in Table 20 of the province’s Environmental Code, June 1, 2015 under The Environmental Management and Protection Act, 2010.

Description: The Air Quality Section of the Ministry of Environment and the Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CAPMoN) operate a network of wet deposition monitors in Saskatchewan. The Wet deposition program is designed to help understand the variations and the relative importance of sulfuric and nitric acids to precipitation acidity across the province. The data is used to monitor changes and trends in the quality of precipitation in the province and to determine the effects of wet deposition of chemical species on the environment.
