Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P STYLE="margin:0 0 11 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>The Saskatchewan Geographic Names data layer contains the names and associated information for all geographic features and places which have been officially named pursuant to provincial legislation. The majority of these names relate to natural geographic features which have been named through the Saskatchewan Geographic Names Program, which is authorized by the </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>Heritage Property Act </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>and administered by the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. The data layer also includes the names of those places and features named pursuant to other provincial legislation, notably </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>The Parks Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>, </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>The Environmental Management and Protection Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>and the </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>Municipalities Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>, as well as features on federal lands and First Nations Reserves which are named pursuant to the </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>National Defence Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>, </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>Indian Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>, </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>Parks Canada Agency Act, </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>and other federal legislation. These organizations and agencies share this information with the Saskatchewan Geographic Names Program so that it can be added to the central Geographic Names database managed by the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. </SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 7 0;"><SPAN>The geographic extent of the </SPAN><SPAN>SK Geographic Names</SPAN><SPAN>is the </SPAN><SPAN>Saskatchewan Provincial Boundary extent including</SPAN><SPAN>landmass and water bodies; the temporal extent is from 1897 to present. This dataset consists of current officially approved names, feature type, coordinates of the feature, decision date, source, and other attributes. The output file formats for this product are: text (csv), Shape (shp), Geography Markup Language (gml), and Keyhole Markup Language (kml).</SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 11 0;"><SPAN /><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
